We are in Week 4.Puan Foziah started the class with the continuation of last week’s presentations on the topic, ‘Working with Young Learners’. I realised that by listening to my friends’ presentation, I gained a perspective where I realised that children can also learn by participating in games and in any fun educational activities.
As a result, today and last class had opened up my eyes to the teaching world! Moreover, personally I realised that children do actually engaged in many indirect learning. Thus, I as a future teacher should try my lest best to fit in a such environment whereby I can use variety of educational games to teach them.
Other than that, I remembered of my friends' presentation whereby they talked about children’s creative use of limited language resources. In here, I could see that children actually did learn and that they were very creative with the grammatical forms. They knew on how to use the language, but somehow just confused with the forms. This is due to the 'Universal Grammar' which was already fixed in the children's brain. Thus, we as teachers should use this advantage of 'Universal Grammar' and we should develop it by giving many activities which is fun and significant for their learning process.
Other than that,another suggestion for students’ learning would be the imaginative play.
This was whereby students indulged in make-believe play. As a result, they would be able to practice their usage of proper language while engaging themselves in self-dialogue. Therefore, we as teachers perhaps can give some role-play activities especially when using stories in the classroom. As a result, the child can start to imagine if they were in another shoe. As a result, personally, I believe that it will develop their imagination skills and crictical skills as well because they need to think and imagine in the characters' shoe. In brief, we as teachers should play prominent role in assisting them so that the students would not lost in their learning process.This concurs with Pn. Foziah whereby she emphasized on the role of teachers in teaching and guiding the students.
After the presentations, Pn. Foziah again, brought us to the new adventure in class. Firstly,we were asked to search and download songs and videos from any downloader, except from youtube. After letting us to explore on our own, we were then introduced to a downloader called ‘MOYEA’.
This moyea was a very fast downloader. Hence, our task for today was to find Shakira’s World Cup song, whereby we need to download it with video as well. Furthermore, we also need to find the lyrics as well. Other than that, we were also recommended to add on any additional songs that we like but we need to state out the steps on how we downloaded them by step by step in a powerpoint.
As a result, personally I was so happy because this was actually quite fun lesson and new for me to do.Other than that, she also patiently and slowly guided us on how to write out the steps and so on. This helped to make our work easier as every step was guided by her. So, today’s lesson was indeed very interesting and I wish to explore it immediately.Time to have fun and learning at the same time! Be happy all!
